It's a Wonderful Life & It Will Keep Getting Better

These are a few of my favorite things ...

Favorite Movies

Movie Poster for the Sound of Music The leading title for this page is a line from the song "My Favorite Things" from the movie "The Sound of Music". It is most appropriately quoted here. "The Sound of Music" is my all time favorite movie. I love singing, and I have loved Julie Andrews' voice from the first time I heard her sing the opening anthem from the movie. She is an amazingly talented actress. The movie moves me in so many ways. It is based on truth, and history has always been a fascination of mine as well. It was also a movie that my family would rent from the library on reel to reel back when I was a child. We'd put a sheet up on the wall, and we would watch it for a special event. The movie is associated with many of my treasured memories.

I own all of the various anniversary and original releases of the DVD, BluRay, Gift Sets, and VHS. I even own a small reel of the film, though it is not the full version. The only version that I don't have anything of is the LaserDisc. One day, I will though. I keep looking. It doesn't matter to me that I can't play it. I just want to have one of every kind.

30th anniversary laser disc image for the sound of music UPDATE 10/31: Great news! I now own two of the LaserDisc versions of the movie as well. I just recently picked them up off ebay, and they arrived safe and sound. The picture showing is the 30th anniversary version of the laser disc. I also own the special edition THX version. The 30th anniversary edition actually included a still sealed gold cd of the soundtrack!

It's crazy because I am so excited to own something I can't even watch. I never thought I would have a Laser Disc copy too. They were aways so expensive. On a whim I decided to check a couple weeks ago. I was surprised at what I found. I guess a lot of people are selling them now. I'm scouting out a couple of other versions of it.

Favorite Types of Music/Musicians

Classic Disney Songs Volumne 1-4 You could probably have guess from my all-time favorite movie that I would probably love to listen to musical soundtracks. As a matter of fact, there are a bunch that I do enjoy listening to. I am a little particular to certain versions of things. Some singers just perform the numbers better than others.

I love listening to many of the older Disney songs from their glory days in movies. Song from Mary Poppins, Babes in Toyland, The Monkey's Uncle, The Happiest Millionaire, the early animated movies, original Mickey Mouse club with Annette Funicello, and so much more. The CD's showing for the Classic Disney Songs Volumes 1-4 were wore out in tape form, and I had to get CD's. I know some of the newer animated movies (meaning the 1990's Disney animated) are also on these, but I loved singing those too.
Shatter Me CD by Lindsey Stirling I also love listening to classical piano and violin music. I like to relax by it, and I find it very soothing. Though some music like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is very moving and not so relaxing, but I still love it. There is power and passion in many forms of classical music like TSO.

George Winston is one of my favorite pianists to listen to, and Lindsey Stirling is my favorite violinist to listen to. Lindsey Stirling also has some songs that contain vocals on the tracks. "Shatter Me" is the title track, and she has a singer named "Lizzy Hale" who does the vocals. Amazing. "Shatter Me" is a song that I sing at karaoke both because I love it and people request that I do it.

Pachabell's Canon in D ... and all the variations that people create on it instrumentally ... is probably my all-time favorite classical song to listen to. I am amazed how something can still be recognizable as Pachabell's Cannon, and yet it is not written the same way. There are a lot of talented composers and musicians out there.
I already have several of my favorite types of music on CD. Check them out below.
